Ethiopia successfully met the child mortality Millennium Development Goal. An increased utilisation of primary care services for pregnant women, newborns and children is a prerequisite for further improvement in newborn and child survival. To address this under utilisation of services, the Federal Ministry of Health, together with implementing partners UNICEF and PATH, initiated the ‘Optimizing the Health Extension Program’ (OHEP) in four regions in Ethiopia.
