: Missing data are, to a lesser or greater extent, an inevitable part of any longitudinal clinical study, reducing the power of a study to detect effects; and arguably more importantly, potentially resulting in biased estimates and hence invalid conclusions.(1) As missing data can profoundly affect study outcomes, it is necessary to consider why they arise and how they can be minimized.
